On Wednesday, a military helicopter carrying India’s defence commander, General Bipin Rawat, crashed in southern India, killing at least 13 people.

“With great sadness, it has now been confirmed that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other personnel on board perished in the terrible mishap,” the Indian Air Force said on Twitter.

The IAF went on to say that Gen Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other people on board had died in the disaster.

According to Indian media sources, 14 persons were on board the helicopter going from Delhi to Sulur.
