Washington(AFP) – The US said on Friday that it will send an additional 3,000 troops to Poland to reassure NATO partners amid rising worries of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

At President Joe Biden’s request, 3,000 men from the 82nd Airborne Division, the US military’s major fast response force, were already placed on notice in late January.

In the face of probable Russian action, Biden wants to express solidarity for US friends in Eastern Europe.

According to a senior defence official, they will depart the facility in the following days and will arrive in Poland early next week.
