BERLIN – Germany and its Western allies have decided to exclude Russia from the SWIFT global payment system, according to a German government spokeswoman. The move is part of a third round of sanctions aimed at deterring Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions, which include the United States, France, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the European Commission, also limit Russia’s central bank’s capacity to support the rouble.
The “golden passports” for affluent Russians and their families will be abolished, and persons and institutions in Russia and overseas that support the war against Ukraine will be targeted, according to the spokeswoman.
