WASHINGTON (AFP) – Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, YouTube has declared that certain Russian channels would be unable to monetize their videos, among other limitations.

“We’re taking a variety of initiatives as a result of the unprecedented conditions in Ukraine,” a Google subsidiary representative said in a statement on Saturday.

“Our teams have started to halt the ability for some channels to monetise on YouTube, including RT’s YouTube channels internationally,” a representative for the Russian state-funded news organisation stated.

Ads that display while consumers watch their videos help YouTube channels make money.

On Friday, Facebook stated that it will prohibit Russian state media from using its platform to display advertising and monetize.
