KYIV, Ukraine (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has endangered the existence of Ukraine’s statehood as his army encounters tough resistance in its invasion of the neighbouring country and his economy is being suffocated by sanctions.

In the latest move to keep Moscow out of the global economy, Visa and Mastercard, both located in the United States, have stated that their activities in Russia would be suspended, while international leaders have promised to act in response to the attack.

“The existing (Ukrainian) authorities must understand that if they keep doing what they’re doing, the future of Ukrainian statehood is in jeopardy,” Putin said on Saturday.

“And they will bear full responsibility if this occurs.”
