Reuters – OAKLAND, Calif. (Reuters) – Google (GOOGL.O), a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.O), has spotted Russian hackers, most notably FancyBear, engaged in espionage, phishing operations, and other attacks against Ukraine and its European allies in recent weeks.
Google’s Threat Analysis Group, which focuses on disrupting computer hackers and informing people about them, reported in a blog post on Monday that Russian hacking team FancyBear, also known as APT28, has been sending phishing emails to Ukrainian media company UkrNet for the last two weeks.
Russia denies using hackers to follow out rivals. Phishing communications are intended to gather user account login information in order for hackers to get access to a target’s computers and internet accounts.
