Russia’s Black Sea flagship, which is taking part in the naval attack on Ukraine, has been “seriously damaged” by an explosion, according to official media, as Moscow threatens to target Kyiv’s command centres.
As the conflict entered its seventh week, US Vice President Joe Biden unveiled a $800 million military aid package for Ukraine, which included helicopters and armoured personnel carriers.
International prosecutors have also stated that the fighting has transformed Ukraine into a “crime scene,” implying that individuals responsible may face punishment in the future.
The reason of the explosion on the Moskva missile cruiser remained unknown, with both sides reporting different information.
According to Russia’s defence ministry, the damage was caused by munitions detonating “as a result of a fire,” and the origin of the incident is being probed.
However, Sergey Bratchuk, a spokesperson for the Odessa military administration, stated on Telegram that “according to available data, the source of the’serious damage’ was ‘Neptune’ domestic cruise missiles.”
The governor of Odessa also stated that Ukrainian soldiers had fired missiles at the vessel, while presidential advisor Oleksiy Arestovych stated that “we don’t understand what occurred.”
