Russian President Vladimir Putin told the visiting United Nations Secretary-General on Tuesday that he still had optimism for peace talks to resolve the bloodshed in Ukraine.
“Despite the fact that the military operation is still underway, we remain hopeful that we will be able to make agreements on the diplomatic route,” Putin said in televised remarks to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who was visiting Moscow.
“We’re negotiating; we’re not dismissing (talks).”
Putin, sitting across from Guterres at a large table in the Kremlin, said efforts to reach an agreement with Ukraine had been stymied by allegations of crimes perpetrated by Russian soldiers in the town of Bucha, outside Kyiv.
