LONDON – Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West on Tuesday that he may halt exports and transactions, the Kremlin’s sharpest reaction yet to the sanctions imposed by the US and its allies in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Putin, Russia’s supreme leader since 1999, issued a wide edict on Tuesday prohibiting the export of goods and raw materials to persons and businesses on a sanctions list that he directed the government to compile within 10 days.

The regulation, which went into effect upon publication, offers Moscow the ability to wreak havoc on markets by suspending exports or terminating contracts with entities or individuals it has sanctioned at any time.
