On Wednesday (May 11), activists demanded an impartial inquiry into the shooting death of veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed while covering an Israeli army operation in the occupied West Bank.

During the turmoil in the Jenin refugee camp, Israeli troops shot Abu Akleh, 51, a Palestinian-American Christian, in the head “in cold blood,” according to a Qatar-based TV programme.

“Armed Palestinians – who were indiscriminately firing at the time – were likely responsible for the terrible murder of the journalist,” Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated.
