On Saturday, Russia cut off gas supplies to Finland, intensifying a dispute with the West over energy costs and bolstering its offensive in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region.

Russia looks to be preparing a big offensive in Luhansk, one of two provinces in Donbas, after ending weeks of resistance by the last Ukrainian fighters in the vital southeastern city of Mariupol.

Before the February 24 attack, Russian-backed separatists controlled vast swaths of ground in Luhansk and the neighbouring Donetsk province, but Moscow now plans to seize the last remaining Ukrainian-held territory in Donbas.
