SAO PAULO, Feb 11 (Reuters) – The Brazilian government announced on Friday that the United Nations has selected the Amazonian city of Belem to host the COP30 climate change meeting in November 2025.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva made the news in a video with his foreign minister and the governor of Para state, which includes Belem.
“I’m convinced it will be a fantastic event,” added Lula, who had previously committed to bring the United Nations climate talks to a city in the world’s largest rainforest.
