THE GILGIT – The vote of no confidence against Speaker Syed Amjad Zaidi on Tuesday caused chaos in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
Javed Manwa, a provincial minister, and Raja Zakaria, a senior provincial minister, introduced the proposal, which marked a dramatic change in the local political climate.
It’s important to remember that Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate and Speaker Syed Amjad Zaidi already agreed to a two-and-a-half-year term. But there appears to be a breaking point in the two people’s tense connection.
After all efforts at compromise and reconciliation fell short, Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate took the extreme step of submitting a no-confidence resolution.
The parliamentary committee, which is in charge of resolving such disputes, made an unsuccessful attempt to get Speaker Amjad Zaidi to respond to the criticism levelled at him.
