Early estimates from ship trackers indicate that in May, China and India imported more Russian crude oil than ever before as customers gorged on low-cost supplies, which reduced demand for oil from the Middle East and Africa.

The boost in Russian supply is intended to coincide with a summit of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, which includes Russia, on June 4.
